More on Alnwick

The history of Alnwick goes back to the Anglo Saxon period, around AD 600. The Earls of Northumberland resided here during medieval times. They built Alnwick Castle following the Norman Conquest. It stands today as a well-preserved stately home.

The history of Alnwick is closely associated with that of Alnwick Castle, which passed through different hands over the centuries. There were many wars found between the ruling family, the Percys, and the Scots, and memorials around town commemorate these events.

Visiting Alnwick

The main town is Newcastle upon Tyne. Take the A1 road from Newcastle upon Tyne heading north to reach Alnwick. Turn off to A1068 to reach the town.
