Alpine Refuges in Greece

There are some forty alpine refuges or mountain retreats in Greece. If you are planning to go hiking in the mountainous areas of Greece, you can get details about spending the night in these refuges. The organisation to contact is the Greek Alpine Club about renting the keys to the retreats. As the number of retreats are few and in demand, they can be expensive and only while while if you are trekking in a large group.

The mountain retreats can be used as base camps for hiking the mountains. Many are well equiped with kitchens, bed linens and other amenities. As they were often built a long time ago, they are often not very well placed, often requiring you to hike a distance to reach them.
