Andorra la Vella (map) is the capital and main town of the co-principality of Andorra. The town traditionally had a economy based on furniture making and brandies, but has today made its income from being a tax haven. Tourism accounts for 80% of its GDP. Although it is not a member of the European Union, it has an arrangement with the EU to use the Euro as its currency.

Andorra la Vella covers 30 sq km (11.6 sq mi) and has a population of 25,000 (2011 estimate). Located in a valley surrounded by mountains in the southern part of Andorra, Andorra la Vella is at the confluence of two streams, the Valira del Nord and the Valira del Orient. The city has an Old Town with cobblestone streets and medieval houses. This is where you find the Església de Sant Esteve (Church of Saint Stephan), built in the Romanesque style in the 11th century. The oldest city in Andorra la Vella is another church, of Santa Coloma, dating to the 9th century.

Andorra la Vella experiences a temperate climate. Warmest month in July, when the average high temperature is around 20°C (68°F) while the coldest is January, when it drops to -1°C (30°F).
