Bari is a major city in southern Italy. It is the capital of Bari province and Apulia region. The city is the second most important economic centre for southern mainland Italy after Naples. It is well known within Italy as a port city and university town, and also for its patron saint, St. Nicholas.

You can reach Bari by plane, train and by road. The Bali airport, named after Pope John Paul II, receives flights from a number of budget airlines. You can also take a train from Naples or Rome to Bari. If you are going there by road, take the A14 highway which runs from Bologna to Taranto along the Adriatic coast.
