More on Black River

A rather laid-back town, Black River was named after the river of the same name. The longest river in Jamaica, Black River empties into the Caribbean Sea at the town. It is a river that has crocodiles, which you can view if you take a river safari cruise. The crocodiles are quite used to seeing humans, so they tend to appear quite docile as they bask in the sun. Appearance, of course, deceives.

The center of Black River town is its bustling market place. Although Black River has a number of attractive and historically significant buildings, it is not a tourist town. So you cannot expect much of a nightlife here.

Visiting Black River

Black River is 73 km (46 miles) to the south of Montego Bay. You can take the bus there or hire a taxi.
