Bourton-on-the-Water is a village in Gloucestershire, England. It has a population of 3,300 people (2012 estimate), and lies within the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its High Street is beside the River Windrush, crossed at several places by arched stone bridges.

The area around Bourton-on-the-Water has been inhabited since the Iron Age, as evidenced in Salmonsbury Camp, a prehistoric habitation from that period. According to escavations carried out, human habitation has been continuous from the Neolithic period through the Bronze Age and into the Roman period. The village itself has some 117 heritage buildings that have been listed for their historic value.

Due to the historic value of its many sites, Bourton-on-the-Water is today a popular tourist destination.

Coming by car from London, take the M40 motorway until Exit 8, then continue heading northwest on the A40 road past Oxford and continuing on until the intersection at Northleach. Turn right and head north on the A429 road until you arrive in Bourton-on-the-Water.
