More on Buckingham
Buckingham traces its history to the 7th century, when it was established by the Anglo-Saxon leader Bucca. The name Buckingham means "meadow of Bucca's people". With the arrival of the Vikings, the village of Buckingham changed hands a number of times, between the Saxons and the Danes. It was made the county town of the newly formed Buckinghamshire in the 10th century.
In 1529, Buckingham lost the title of county town to Aylesbury. King Henry VIII made Aylesbury the county town of Buckinghamshire to benefit Thomas Boleyn, father of Anne Boleyn, whom King Henry VIII was interested to marry, because Thomas has properties in Aylesbury.
