Burton upon Trent is a town in East Staffordshire, England. Also known as Burton-on-Trent, it straddles the River Trent, on the southwest side of the River Dove, which forms the natural boundary between Staffordshire and Derbyshire. Burton upon Trent is within the National Forest. It has a population of some 65,000 people (2012 estimate).

Although human habitation in the Burton upon Trent area goes back to at least the Roman period, the history of Burton upon Trent goes back to the Anglo-Saxon period, when a settlement was established on the River Trent. Its name means "settlement at a fortified place". The name has evolved from Burton super Trentam to Burton upon Trent, and in the 20th century, it has also often been called Burton-on-Trent.

Since the Middle Ages Burton upon Trent has developed into a center for breweries. There are as many as a dozen breweries in town at its peak. The choice of Burton upon Trent as a brewing center is due in no small part to the availability of good quality supply of water which flows out of the surrounding hills. Today there are stil five different brewers in town.

Burton upon Trent is today a modern English town with the usual branches of chain outlets. The main shopping mall in town is Cooper's Square, which opened in 1970.

From London, take the M1 motorway to Junction 24, then continue west on the A50 road. At Junction 4 of the A50 road, head south on the A38 road till you reach Burton upon Trent.
