The area around Cambridgeshire has seen one of the earliest permanent settlement in the United Kingdom, going back to Neolithic times. The county is among the lowest-lying parts of the country, and includes the lowest, Holme Fen, which is 2.75 m (9ft) below sea level. Its highest npoint is 146 m (480 ft) above sea level at the village of Great Chishill.

Cambridgeshire comprises six districts namely Cambridge, South Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, Fenland, East Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
