Catania, Italy
Catania is a city on the island of Sicily in Italy. With a population of about 300,000 (2011 estimate) people, it is the second biggest city in Sicily and tenth biggest in Italy. Catania is on the east coast of Sicily,k between Messina and Syracuse. It is the provincial capital of the Catania Province.

Catania is located at the foot of Mount Etna, one of the most active volcanoes in Europe. As such, it has suffered from the many eruptions of Etna throughout history, along with a number of catastrophic earthquakes. The city was founded a long time ago, in the 8th century BC. By the 14th century, it has become a major center of culture and the arts, and was the site of the first university in Sicily in 1434.
