The name Chipping means "market place" in Old English. The town prospered in the Middle Ages through the wool trade, as reflected in the many fine houses along its High Street. In the early 20th century, it became a center for the Arts and Crafts Movement, after Charles Robert Ashbee moved there from the East End of London.

From London take the M40 motorway until Exit 8, then continue on the A40 road until the Wolvecote Roundabout, then continue on the A44 road until the junction to the B4081 to your right after Moreton-in-Marsh. Take the B4081 until you arrive at Chippen Campden.
