Cienfuegos (map) is a city on the southern coast of Cuba. It is located on the northern shore of a lagoon-like bay called Bahia de Cienfuegos (also called Bahia de Jagua). It covers 333 sq km (128.6 sq mi) and has a population of 164,000 people (2011 estimate).

The city of Cienfuegos was originally named Fernardina de Jagua, in honor of King Ferdinand VII of Spain. It is located in an area called Cacicazgo de Jagua. The town was however later renamed Cienfuegos.
Cienfuegos has a well-preserved historic center which was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005. In that same year the city was hit by Hurrican Dennis.
