More on Colón

Colón was established by the Americans in 1850 as the terminus for the Panama Railway. That was during the California gold rush, and the port provided a fast route to reach California. It was built on a marshy islet which was connected to the mainland by a causeway.

Visiting Colón

There is a train service between Panama City and Colón which follows a section of the Panama Canal. It is also visited by cruise ships.
