Equatorial Guinea is a small country on the west coast of Central Africa. It covers 28,050 sq km (10,830 sq mi) and has a population of about 680,000 (2011 estimate). Equatorial Guinea is bordered by Cameroon to the north, and Gabon to the east and south. It has a coast facing the Gulf of Guinea to the west.

However, the high per capita GDP is deceptive, as the wealth in concentrated in the hands of the elite, while 70% of the population survive below the United Nations Poverty Threshold of $2 per day.

According to Freedom House, Equatorial Guinea ranks as among the worst violators of human rights in the world. The country has gone through over a dozen coups d'état.

Visitors to Equatorial Guinea need a visa, obtainable with proof of a minimum of $2,000 in your bank account, as well as certification for smallpox, yellow fever and cholera vaccinations.
