Winter in Franche-Comté

Franche-Comté is a region in eastern France. It is bordered by Switzerland to the east, Rhône-Alpes to the south, Burgundy to the west, Champagne-Ardenne to the northwest, Lorraine to the north and Alsace to the northeast. It covers 16,202 sq km (6,255 sq mi) and has a population of 1.2 million people (2011 estimate).

Franche-Comté comprises four departments namely Doubs, Jura, Haute-Saône and Territoire de Belfort. The capital is Besançon while other cities include Belfort and Montbéliard. Due to its proximity to Switzerland, the region shares much of its architecture and cuisine with its neighbor.

Going to Franche-Comté

There are train services linking Besançon and Paris. The journey takes about 3 hours. You can also take Autoroute A35 to reach Besançon.
