Frutillar is a city in Llanquihue Province, Los Lagos Region, Chile. It covers 831.4 sq km (321.0 sq mi) and has a population of 17,000 people (2012 estimate). It is located on the western bank of Lake Llanquihue, the largest lake that is entirely within Chile. The scenic beauty of the town has today made it a tourist destination.

The Frutillar area was discovered by Bernhard Eunom Philippi in 1842. The site was ideal for colonisation. In 1856 by Chilean diplomat Vicente Pérez Rosales established Frutillar to house incoming German settlers. The settlers were part of the official colonisation program of Southern Chile. They arrived at the port in Puerto Montt and then traveled by land to Puerto Varas, then continue to Frutillar.
