Great Yarmouth is a coastal town in Norfolk, England. It covers 26.54 sq km (10.25 sq mi) and has a population of 47,000 people (2012 estimate). Often known simply as Yarmouth, it is a popular seaside resort particularly in the past centuries.

Great Yarmouth is situated on a spit between the North Sea and the River Yare. The Romans built a fort here, at the mouth of the Yare. It developed into a seaside resort in the 18th century. Around the same time, it also became a major fishing port, particularly of herring.

Today Great Yarmouth is still a popular tourist destination. Its many sights continues to draw domestic tourists.

There are trains to Great Yarmouth from the London Liverpool Street Station. The journey takes about two and a half hours.

  1. Market Gates Shopping Centre
    A shopping center in Great Yarmouth, first opened in 1976.

  2. Norfolk Naval Pillar
    Known locally as Nelson's Monument, this memorial is a tribute to Lord Nelson. It was completed in 1819.

  3. The Golden Mile
    Seafront of Great Yarmouth.

  4. Time and Tide Museum
    Third largest museum in Norfolk, it is housed within a conserved Victorian herring curing factory. It explains the town's maritime and fishing heritage.

  5. Tollhouse
    Dating to the late 13th century, this is said to be the oldest civic building in Britain.

  6. Wellington Pier
    One of the two piers at Great Yarmouth, the other being Britannia Pier.
