More on Guarda
Guarda is predominantly an agricultural village located on the bank of the River Inn. Most of the people here speak Romansh (62.5%) with German being the second most common mother tongue (30.6%).
Guarda has managed to keep its village buildings well preserved, leading to it being awarded the 1975 Wakker Prize for architectural heritage preservation. The award notes that the village managed to preserve the character of a Lower Engadine village despite the demands of modern tourism and socio-economic pressures of youth migration to bigger cities.
