Heritage Hotels in Greece
Since the 1970's the Greek National Tourist Office (known also by its abbreviation, EOT), has spearheaded the restoration of derelict buildings that are examples of traditional architecture, and turning them into accommodation providers for tourists.

While these "heritage hotels" are below the level of boutique hotels in terms of luxury offerings, they compensate by offering good value for money. Many travelers enjoy the experience of staying in such restored heritage hotels for the character of the building and the charm of the entire environment in which the building is located.
In recent years, the availability of grants and tax breaks were great impetus for many owners of old buildings to restore them and turn them into heritage hotels. As these buildings are refitted to accommodate present-day expectations and creature comfort, many now offer rooms with attached bathrooms, though due to preservation considerations, some don't.
You can find a good number of heritage hotels in Areópoli, Vátheia, Makrinítsa, Megálo Pápigko, Monemvasía, Stemnítsa, Galaxídi, Náfplio, Ydra, Crete, Sými, Mýkonos, Sýlros, Kálymnos and Rhodes.
