Inverness lies at the mouth of the River Ness. It experiences an Oceanic climate with one of the coldest winter weathers of all cities in the United Kingdom. Temperature can reach a height of 29°C in summer but goes down to as low as -17°C in winter. Heaviest rainfall is in the months of October to December, averaging 84 mm or more. Driest months are April to June.
