Isle of Wight is a county and largest island of England. It is located off the coast of Hampshire in the English Channel. It is separated from Hampshire by the strait of Solent.

The Isle of Wight is 384 sq km (148 sq mi) and has a population of about 140,000 (2011 estimate).

Until 1890, the Isle of Wight was part of Hampshire. Since then it became an independent administrative county and since 1974, a non-metropolitan and ceremonial county. The island is renowned for its picturesque landscape and its holiday resorts.

Going to the Isle of Wight

You can reach the Isle of Wight from Southampton, Portsmouth, Lymington and Southsea. There are ferries and hovercraft service available depending on where you are departing from.
