Kristiansand was founded by King Christian IV, in 1641. It was originally written as Christianssand until 1877, when the spelling was changed to Kristianssand, and again in 1889, to Kristiansand. The city was laid out in a strict grid pattern which was later adopted by cities in North America.The warmest month in Kristiansand is July, with average high temperature of 20.1°C (68.2°F). Coldest month is February, when the average low drops to -5.1°C (22.8°F). October and November are the wettest months, each receiving 164 mm (6.46 in) of precipitation.
