Lauterbrunnen is situated 795 m (2,608 ft) above sea level within the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the world's deepest U-shaped valley. As such, it is a village surrounded by breathtaking beauty. The village dates back to its first mention in 1240.
Running through Lauterbrunnen is a glacier river, Weisse Lütschine, which gets its water from the melting snow. Once a year it would overflow due to the rapid melting of snow. The village also has a couple of mighty waterfalls which you can visit when you explore the surrounding areas.
