More on Le Locle

Le Locle is widely regarded as the birthplace of Swiss watch-making industry. Together with nearby La Chaux-de-Fonds, Le Locle makes watches for some of the best known Swiss brands including Tissot, Ulysse Nardin and Zenith. Both cities are today recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their watchmaking town planning heritage.

The history of watchmaking in Switzerland began when a young watch maker Daniel Jeanrichard settled in Le Locle and started a watch-making workshop. His apprentices later opened their own workshops in La Chaux-de-Fonds, helping both cities to pioneer the watch-making industry.
