Madeley is a small town in the borough of Telford and Wrekin in Shropshire, England. Located to the south of the new town of Telford, it has a population of around 19,000 people (2012 estimate).

Madeley dates back to the Anglo Saxon period of British history, around the 8th century. The settlement was recorded in the Norman survey for the compilation of Domesday Book in 1086. It was a village of limited significance till the late 13th century, when it was granted a market charter.
The prosperity of Madeley was boosted by the discovery and mining of coal in 1322. This was followed by the extraction of ironstone from 1540. By the 17th century, it was a vibrant market town with a number of specialized trades. By the 19th century, most of the industries of the medieval period were in decline.
Today Madeley has evolved to cash in on tourism as an important part of its economy. It has a number of historic interest which have been included in the South Telford Heritage Trail.

From London, take the M1 motorway to Junction 19, then continue west on the M6 motorway. In Birmingham, exit the M6 at Juntion 11 to the M54 motorway. Exit the M54 motorway at Junction 5 to reach Telford and follow signage to Madeley.

Open-air museum occupying the former industrial complex of Madeley. It displays industrial buildings, general public buildings and original buildings relocated to the museum. The museum is managed by the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust.
