Matthew Town is the only town on the island of Great Inagua in the Bahamas. It was founded in the 19th century, and named after Bahamian Governor George Matthew, who served from 1844 to 1849.

  1. Bahamas National Trust Park on Inagua
    A 287-sq-mile nature reserve covering almost half of Great Inagua island. It serves as a sanctuary for flamingos.

  2. Erickson Museum and Library
    Local museum, occupying former home of the Erickson family who was involved nin the Bahama salt industry. Open Mon-Fri 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm; Sat 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Phone: +1 242 339 1863

  3. Morton Salt Company
    Salt factory with tours available for visitors to learn about the production of salt. Details: www.mortonsalt.com

  4. Southwest Point Lighthouse
    Lighthouse with beacon built in 1870. It is open to the public daily. From here you can view as far as the Cuban coast if the day is clear.
