Morocco is a kingdom in North Africa. It covers 710,850 sq km (274,460 sq mi) and also administers the territory of Western Sahara. Morocco has a population of 32.5 million people (2011 estimate). Its capital is Rabat while its biggest city is Casablanca.

Morocco had an estimated 2010 nominal GDP of $104.031 billion, equivalent to a per capita nominal GDP of $3,161. Its per capita GDP at purchasing power parity stood at $5,866. The services sector accounts for more than half of Morocco's economy today, with high growth in tourism, telecommunications and information technology. Nevertheless close to half of Morocco's population are still involved in agriculture, although it accounts for just 14% of the GDP.
The history of Morocco goes back thousands of years. The Berber Kingdom of Mauretania was established in northern Morocco as early as 110BC. In the 7th century the land was conquered by the Umayyad Arabs, bringing with them the Islamic faith. A series of Berber dynasties ruled Morocco from the 11th century.

Morocco was divided between the French and the Spanish following the Treaty of Fez in 1912. It regained its independence from France and Spain in 1956, and became the Kingdom of Morocco which lasts till today.
