Nakuru is the fourth biggest city in Kenya and the provincial capital of its Rift Valley Province. The city is also the district capital of Nakuru District. It has a population of around 300,000 people (2011 estimate).

Nakuru is the educational center in central Kenya. Visitors come here on their way to Lake Nakuru National Park. The town itself is a pleasant East African with some tourist attractions nearby.
Although human habitation in the Nakuru area goes back to the prehistoric period, the town itself was founded at the end of the 19th century. It became a municipality in 1952.
