More on Newlyn
Newlyn grew as a fishing port due largely to its choice location in Gwavas Lake, an area which forms part of Mounts Bay. It was mentioned for the first time in 1435. The villagers of Newlyn had strong connection with that of the parish of Paul, which is connected to it by a hill path running steelply up the cliff.
Today, as it was centuries past, the economy of Newlyn is closely associated with the sea, and most of the people here are fishermen. It is in fact the biggest fishing port in England.
