The city of Nottingham is perhaps best known for the legend of Robin Hood. It is however one of the early industrised cities of Britain, and was a centre for lace making and bicycle manufacturing. It was granted its city charter in conjunction with the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Queen Victoria in 1897, and is known officially as the City of Nottingham.
