Pensionen are similar to the British Bed-and-Breakfast. They are family-run accommodation providers. Often guests at Pensionen share meals with the hosts. Although rates vary from family to family, most Pensionen can be relied upon to offer a comfortable stay at very affordable rates.
Gasthof is an inn. This is what you will come across in many of the smaller towns and villages in Germany. The ground floor is usually occupied by the restaurants, with the guest rooms located on the upper floors. The term Gasthof cover a wide spectrum of such accommodation providers, from small, family-run inns to some of the most luxurious country mansions.
