San Miguel is a city on the eastern part of El Salvador. With a population of 220,000 people (2011 estimate), it is the fourth most populous city in the country, but regarded as the second most important after the capital, due to it being the center for agriculture and various industries.

The history of San Miguel goes back to 1530, when a village was established there. It was granted city status in 1586. The city today is one of the most prosperous in the country, producing some 18% of El Salvador's GDP.

The Nuestra Señora de la Paz Festival is celegrated in San Miguel every November. This is when the city takes on a festive mood, and people from all over El Salvador as well as neighboring countries converge on it for some merry making.
