Santa Rosa de Copán is one of the main cities in western Honduras. It is the provincial capital of Copán Department. Santa Rosa de Copán was founded in 1705 by Captain Don Juan García de la Candelaria, who bought the land from the Spanish Crown. The settlement was originall called Los Llanos and later Santa Rosa de Los Llanos. It was renamed once again in 1865, to Santa Rosa de Copán, a name that it hold till today.
