Setúbal is a city on the northern bank of the Sado River, about 40 km to the south of Lisbon, Portugal. It is the main city in the Setúbal Municipality. The city today is the third largest port in the country.

In the early part of the 20th century Setúbal was an important fishery center, particularly for sardines. That industry has been in decline, so the city is now dependent on tourism as the mainstay of its economy. The city is the gateway to the outstanding beaches and nature parks in the surrounding area. Dolphin watching is also one of the tourist activities that is available on the Sado River.

You can reach Setúbal by taking a train or bus from Lisbon. Buses run almost every hour between Lisbon and Setúbal.
