Sheffield is a city in South Yorkshire, England. It is located at the confluence of five rivers. With an urban population of 640,000, Sheffield is one of the bigger cities in the United Kingdom. The city is noted around the country as the centre for steel production. it was through the manufacturing of steel products that helped Sheffield to expand rapidly during the 19th century.

The turn of the new millennium has brought a number of new public projects to the city centre of Sheffield. The Millennium Galleries was opened here in 2001, followed by the Winter Gardens in 2003 and Millennium Square in 2006. The Airport Arrow bus provides the transportation between the airport and the city. Budget travelers can take a number of low cost carriers to Sheffied including Ryanair, Wizzair, FlyBe, FlyGlobespan and Thomas Cook.

You can take the East Midlands Trains from London St Pancras station to Sheffield. By Bus
National Express and Megabus both have bus services to Sheffield. The Sheffield bus interchange is just a short walking distance from its railway station.

Budget Travel within Sheffield

The city centre of Sheffield can be easily explored on foot. The city has in the last decade has become more friendly to pedestrian traffic, with city centre map and good signages. To cover longer distances, there are three tram lines that connect various places within the city. A single ticket costs from £1.40. You should consider getting the Dayrider ticket, which costs £3.00 and allows you unlimited use of the trams and Stagecoach buses for the whole day. The Megarider ticket costing £12.00 does the same thing for a whole week.
