At the most basic, things that come to mind include fridge magnets in the form the Sydney Harbour Bridge, kangaroos and koala bears. Bigger items include aboriginal arts and crafts, painted ostrich egg shells and boomerangs.

Australia produces high quality goods such as homewares and wines. It has a wide range of fashionable clothing, from camping gear to surfing apparel. The country is also a major producer of gems, particularly opals, 95% of which comes from Australia.

Opening Hours

Shops are usually open from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, with late night shopping on Thursdays and Fridays, until 9:00 pm. Deregulation has allowed many shops, particularly those in the big cities, to open on Saturdays and Sundays as well. Bookstores and specialty shops stay open until 10:00 pm, particularly in the downtown areas of big cities. A few supermarkets stay open 24 hours.
