Stratford-upon-Avon has a population of 26,000 people (2012 estimate). As its name suggests, it is located on the River Avon. The nearest major city is Birmingham, located 35 km (22 mi) to the northwest.

The history of Stratford goes back to 1196, when it received its town charter. Today it derives its income mainly from tourism, particularly in the hospitality industry. Due to the continuous stream of tourists, it has a well developed tourism infrastructure, with hotels, restaurants and tourist sights.

Visiting Stratford-upon-Avon

There are trains from London Marylebone station to Stratford-upon-Avon. Journey ntakes about two and a half hours. Trains also connect it with Birmingham and Warwick.

To reach Stratford-upon-Avon by car, take the M40 motorway to Junction 15, then continue southwest on A46, followed by the A439 road until you arrive in town.
