Thornbury is a market town in South Gloucestershire, England, some 19 km (12 mi) to the north of Bristol. The town has a population of around 12,000 people (2012 estimate).

The history of Thornbury can be traced into the Neolithic and Bronze ages, based on archaeological discoveries in the area. There is also clear evidence of Roman presence, with the discovey of Roman coins dated from 260 to 348 AD.Thornbury was first mentioned in writing - as Thornbyrig - at the end of the 9th century. It was entered into the Domesday Book of 1086 as Turneberie. The oldest building in town is the St Mary's Church, which dates from 1340. Thornbury received its town charter from Richard de Clare, Earl of Gloucester, in 1252.
Today Thornbury is an award-winning town in the Britain in Bloom competition. It also holds a similar horticultural competition on a town level known as Thornbury in Bloom.
