More on Tilburg
The city of Tilburg was first mentioned in AD 709, although not much is known of the village after that until the Middle Ages. It received city status in 1809, and celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2009.
Tilburg traditionally had a textile and wool-weaving industry. It is regarded as the wool capital of the Netherlands until the 1960s, when the industry succumbed to stiff competition from less expensive locations. Since then the city has diversified into other economic areas. The millhouses from the time of textile weaving are still standing as heritage pieces from a past era.
