More on Worksop

Worksop is believed to be extablished by the Anglo-Saxons. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The settlement remains largely insignificant, safe for its geographic location near major cities such as Sheffield, Lincoln and Nottingham. The area relied on coal mining as its mainstay until the mid 20th century, when the demise of the industry forced Worksop to re-orientate towards other industries, chiefly services, distribution and manufacturing.

With more businesses relocating or setting up in the Worksop area, the town enjoys a lower unemployment rate compared to the national average.
