Yate is a town in South Gloucestershire, England. The town is on the southwestern edge of the Cotswold range of hills, some 19 km (12 mi) northeast of Bristol.

More on Yate

Although Yate dates back to AD 770, it has been a village all along until the 20th century. Its name comes from Old English meaning a "gateway in a forested area". It was even listed in the Domesday Book of 1086. Its parish church was established during Norman times, but was restored in 1970.

Yate only developed into what it is today in the 1960s, when most of the modern amenities were added to it. A pedestrianized shopping center was built here. Among the retailers in Yate include Tesco, Boots, Iceland supermarket and eateries such as McDonald's. In 2009, the Tesco store was replaced by a larger Tesco Extro which opened on 24 October, 2011.

Visiting Yate

Coming from London, take the M4 motorway heading west until Exit 18, then continue north on the A46 road. Then turn left onto the A432 road (Badminton Road). Continue west on the A432 until arriving at Yate.
